The Right SEO Company!

There are several self proclaimed SEO specialists in the market but only a handful know the intricacies of implementing a good SEO strategy. Having a non-reputable SEO service can negatively affect your brand name and could lead to complete removal of the site from search engines (not to mention a waste of valuable marketing dollars) Some of the most commonly used bad practice involve:

  • Stuffing keyword metatags. It was a popular method used three years ago, but with so many advancements and different approaches used by search engines, this is an obsolete approach.
  • Keywords in invisible text – a solution used by companies to quickly implement SEO, but this will get your site banned.
  • Purchase links – Why would you buy links to promote your site? The links get flagged and deleted, and poof!!!!  a portion of your business disappears
  • Overloading with JavaScript (i.e. codings) and content – Search engines work primarily by identifying text, and companies sometimes load the page with JavaScript’s and redundant information.
  • Cloaking – its pretty simple, posing as something that it is not i.e. throwing out different content while the search is done but when you log on to the page, it’s actually not that information that you saw on the search results.

Not everyone can be an SEO expert, but it is important to be educated enough to select a company that will give you the desired results. Some important facts to know:

  • SEO implementation takes time, you need at least 6-12 months to achieve a solid and stable ranking.
  • There is quite a bit of investment required. If you are being told otherwise its either they are not going to do a good job or have no profit motive (which I find hard to believe)
  • SEO does not end; there is no finite time within, the moment you stop investing in it, there will be a drop in the rankings because we all know that others are doing the same as well.

SEO is a proven strategy to improve web traffic so spend some time to do your research and find the company that offers guarantees and uses respectable methods.

Want more traffic to your blog from Facebook?

Lots of people are on Facebook. At least 400 millions (In Feb 2010). Now how can you take advantage of this huge network and drive traffic to YOUR blog?

Here are two quick tips to drive more traffic to your blog from Facebook:

1) Publish your articles on the weekend

More than half of the companies in the US and in Canada block Facebook. Therefore, people can only access their account on the weekend and catch up with what they missed during the week. For those of you who work in a company that does allow Facebook, why are you on Facebook instead of working anyway? :)

So by publishing your post or article on the weekend, they are more likely to be shared and viewed.

Check this article from Dan Zarrella showing some stats: Data Shows: Articles Published on the Weekend are Shared on Facebook More

The takeaway? If you want your article to be shared on Facebook by your readers, try posting it over the weekend.

2) Take advantage of the Open Graph new feature

Facebook launched a protocol called “Open Graph” that allows you to add “like” button on your blog / website etc…The direct result from this is that people in one click can publish your post/article on their facebook profile. It’s a huge opportunity to reach people on Facebook in one click.

If you have a WordPress Blog, you can add this plugin: “Facebook Like”
It allows you to add a “Like” button under each blog post. It’s very easy to set up and use: (click on the picture to enlarge)

Do you have any tips to add? What are your thoughts on traffic coming from Facebook? Is it always relevant?

How Social Media can help you manage complaints – Case Studies

Social Media is more than just a bunch a tech geeks chatting online. It can be a very useful tool to communicate with your clients, share specials, make a brand look personable but also to manage your online reputation.
There are many examples showing that Social Media helped a company resolve a conflict with a client. More times than others, it’s conflict that’s not being solved by Customer reps.

Twitter Success

Take for example Time Warner Cable. They had a very angry customer (Christine Kirk). She is working from home and had a very bad internet connection. After many attempts with the customer service department, nothing was being solved and it didn’t look like they cared much. When she starting complaining on Twitter (@luxuryprgal), she got immediate answers from multiple department at TWC and her problem was solved the next day. (read more about this story here).

This is a perfect example of how social media helped to resolve a conflict.

Twitter Failure

Twitter Failure

However, there are some famous examples of Social Media failures out there. You can check this article showing the worse 9 social media failures of 2009, showing case studies of Skittles, Pizza Hut, Burger King etc…

Social Media can do a lot of damages if not managed properly so don’t take it lightly. Lately, a few  overreacting fans have made “scandals” about celebrities having Ghost Writers instead of tweeting themselves.

The main advice I can give is that if you start social media accounts, don’t be passive. If people mention your name or brand on twitter, respond to them, approach them. There is nothing worse for your online reputation than a whole bunch of people talking about you and you are not saying anything back.
