Games over

A couple days ago took place the closing ceremony and, a few hours before that, the last medal event with the Ice Hockey Game between Canada and United States.

The competition between the two countries, in particular in NHL, has always been pretty intense. And after the first game in the qualification round and US victory, American people were relatively confident in a gold win.

But Canada finally won in the over time thanks to a golden goal, well, more exactly a “Crosby goal”! And it’s a 14th Gold medal for the host country.

The direct result of this last game score is more important that you can imagine. In fact, there is a cultural impact hidden behind a desire of revenge:

For example, a random radio station in Buffalo banned Canadian music last Monday, protesting against the Canadian celebration about the gold medal win in men’s Ice Hockey. True, this is a kind of “passive aggressiveness” , but still… Even if you support a team, the Olympic spirit is about peace and respect; even more when we have great singers!

Well, the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games 2010 are now over. Everything (almost!) is back to normal and some people are really relieved! No more Olympic theme song, no more fireworks, no more lines to get into a bar… But still, the paralympic Games are starting soon, and there are some more venues until March 27th. For more information about that, you should go visit the Cultural Olympiad website.

I hope you enjoyed the Olympics!

Here we are! Everybody in the office is happy now! It’s a silver medal for Canada thanks to Jennifer Heil. After a great run, she finishes at the 2nd place in the Women Freesyle Skiing, between 2 US skiers. Hannah Kerney is the new Olympic Champion.

The young Canadian Chloé Dufour-Lapointe, 18 years old only, is 5th, which is a great performance for her first Winter Olympic Games.

Europe keeps going in Olympic Games 2010

In Virtually Canadian office, we are 9 persons from 6 different countries. In fact, there are 3 French people, 1 German, 1 Russian, 1 Dutch, 1 Korean and 2 Canadians.

Except for Canada, our countries all won a medal today !

In Speed Skating 5000m, Sven Kramer (Holland) was the fastest in the Winter Olympics history, beating the former OR. Gold medal for him. The first non-european medalist of these Olympics is from Korea. Seung Hoon Lee won the silver, 2.45 seconds after the young Dutch man. Ivan Skobrev (Russia) complete the podium of the second Medal Event of Vancouver Olympic Games 2010.

In Biathlon Women’s 7.5Km Sprint, Marie Dorin (France) won the bronze finishing just 9 seconds after Magdalena Neuner (Germany). Anastazia Kuzmina (Slovakia) is the new Olympic Champion.

I really hope Canada will win some medal soon !!

Vancouver Olympic Games: And the first champion is…

The Ski Jumper Simon Ammann, from Switzerland ! A gold medal won thanks to a huge 108 meters jump. No Finns and no Germans on the podium in spite of the results of the 1st round.

Poland won the silver medal and Austria the bronze one. Great start for European countries :)
